Magnus is the first Gravity Hero ever! He is a veteran soldier stubborn enough to refuse that his youth is gone, at least physically. In his first mission as an Elite Soldier, he was sent to the moon to escort scientists to create the first research lunar base. Among human scientists, a synthetic was sent, as it didn’t require oxygen nor heat to survive.
It was supposed to be an easy task as there were no enemies in the moon, so Magnus was sent there without any battle equipment. His guts told him something was wrong, his distrust in the synthetic nature triggered him to keep an eye on the synthetic scientist.
The attack was quick, the synthetic tried to get rid of Magnus. Although his human body, Magnus was strong and had the upper hand in the fight, the synthetic got no option but to jump into the emptiness of the galaxy. The battle cost Magnus his right eye. This was the first synthetic ever to act against humans. Since this day no synthetic was ever sent to the moon, the earth scientists blamed the conditions of the moon to be the cause of the synthetic crisis.
Our first thought about Magnus (and our heroes) was that they shouldn’t be conventional, there is always something different about their personality and traits. Magnus is stubborn, protective and old fashioned. Besides his strength, he is overweight and older than he should be to be in his position. The player may feel that while playing with Magnus.
As we already talked about in an early post (http://gravityheroes.com.br/2018/06/08/here-comes-a-new-challenger-nala/) we had tested some versions, sizes, and resolutions to fit in our game. In the picture above some versions of Magnus we like and used in the final version:
- The bald version of him told us this should be the one, it’s very common to see old soldiers with lots of white hair, but it is rare to see bald heroes, so we choose the “Uncle Phil” version.
- Also, we didn’t want him to be just strong, like Reinhardt in Overwatch. At his age, it should be normal to be overweight. So we added a few pounds to him.
- Magnus lost his eye, putting an eye-patch would be too much Solid Snake in Metal Gear, and it would be a conventional solution. This is a futuristic game, so we gave him a badass digital red eye.
